Tuesday Frannie was here.  Steve dropped by about dinnertime and dropped off his prototype of the glowing red HAL eye.  His looks much better than mine.  F & I swam about 10:00 at night, that was refreshing.  Had a glass of wine afterwards & it reminded me of Midnight Margaritas from Practical Magic.

Wednesday, I went to luch with Linda at work and we rode the city trolley bus.  It's free, and the round trip takes about 20 minutes.  It goes from the city market to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, past Community Hospital & where they are building the new medical school and tearing down the Roanoke City Mills concrete silos on Jefferson Street.

Thursday evening I didn't start any projects, anticipating that the fence would get built then, but it didn't happen.  I was disappointed.  I am required to have a fence because of that pool, but it has been down for a few weeks.

Friday, work let us out early.  We don't get a day off this year because July 4th is on a Saturday.  The weather has been BEAUTIFUL most of the week!  I turned off the A/C and put the screen door back up.
This won't last, but I enjoyed it while it was here.  At night, I put fans in the windows, but there is a skunk somewhere nearby and the fans pull in the smell.  To make up for Thursday, I hung out laundry, fixed the screen in the back door, replaced one strip of webbing on the lawn chair, and made meat loaf.

Saturday, I refinished a cast-iron pot with lid that I got from a yard sale a few weeks ago.  Used paint remover to get off the old coating, then put the wire brush attachment on my electric drill to bring it down to shiny metal.  Painted it with melted shortening, but I'm not going to bake it in the oven anytime soon.  Made French bread in the bread machine.  My neighbor Penny brought over a slice of chocolate raspberry cake that she made with some of my raspberries.  I can't reach the ones farther back that are next to her fence, so I told her she could pick them.  The neighbors finally got together to finish the fence!!! Hooray!  It's done all except for the gate.  Actually, Keith had to give back the air compressor for the nail gun this weekend, so they had to finish.  Give him a deadline.  I dashed out to Home Depot to get some more pickets to finish up.  Lent Keith my rabbit wire to make a temporary gate for his dogs.

C arrived in mid-afternoon and I grilled meat loaf outside on the grill.  He found a Twilight Zone marathon on TV.  I got interested in it and then smelled the meat loaf burning.  It wasn't too bad.  We were going to go see the city fireworks at River's Edge, but C checked the weather report that predicted rain.  It was just sprinkling a little bit when all the other neighbors were leaving to go there.  We stayed home & watched more Twilight Zones.  He's not the least bit of a risk-taker.  When the neighbors got back, they set off little fireworks across the street.  I went over to watch, then after theirs were done I took over my stash of fireworks and set off some of them.  There has been a skunk somewhere in the neighborhood for weeks, and we could smell it last night.  I think it must live under or near my garage because that is where the smell is the strongest.  They shone a flashlight at my garage, looking for glowing eyes.  I went down there to turn on the motion-activated floodlight.  I knew they were watching, so I pretended to get sprayed.  "Phyllis, are you OK?"

Today is chilly & rainy.  Worked on cleaning up the guest room some.
